August 2011

This time last year we partnered with an existing children's home in the area we currently do outreach in. (Name and location witheld for security reasons) The story of how we came in contact with this particular Children's home is pretty amazing. In 1999 my wife and I, along with my brother and parents, made a trip to the Philippines. One day my father and my wife went for a walk around the city we were visiting and met a pastor who was doing some repairs to his church building. They talked and exchanged addresses. They communicated a bit the next couple of years. In 2002 My wife and I returned to the Philippines and my father asked me if I could try and find out what happened to the Pastor. They had lost contact. I took the name and address and was talking around at the family home and my brother-in-law regognized the name of the Pastor. They were actually co-workers. So we met and talked a bit and got back in contact. In 2006 while in the Philippines we met up with our Pastor friend because his wife worked at a local children’s home and we wanted to visit and bring gifts to the children. As we left she told us about another Children's home she previously worked at. Later in the week we met and went there. We made a connection with the homes Director and gave the children some gifts. We returned to visit the home the following year in '07 and '08 On a recent trip in August '10 we visited the home again and the Director told us that the home’s founder, who had started the home in the mid 70's, had recently passed away several months prior. She was also the primary supporter. We asked if we could help them in anyway and she said” however the Lord leads you” She has never asked us for anything. At that time we spoke with her about getting sponsors for the children and supporting them monthly. She was very grateful but you could tell she had been told things like this before and it never followed through. That's one thing we've learned on the mission field. People will promise you so many things but many times it's just talk. That's why we MUST trust in God and know that He will never fail us. Upon leaving the home we bought several large bags of rice and cooked a meal for the kids and staff and came back to the states. We began by sending support right away and are gradually getting sponsors for the children. (we are still working on sponsors but God is providing). We continue to support the home and see this as a long term relationship for years to come.

God Bless!
